Study in G - Fernando Sor This pretty little piece in G is another one of those un-named studies by Fernando Sor that is so charming that the moniker of "Study" doesn't really do it justice. When opening the NWC file, you'll see a single staff, as might be expected for guitar music. However, this staff is muted, and is essentially only there for scoring purposes. What's more, it's actually a "layering" of two staves, allowing the rather fancy typesetting for this piece. Rather, each string of the guitar is treated as a separate instrument, and is assigned its own staff and midi channel. The result is, I think you'll agree, a very faithful midi "performance" the likes of which would have been impossible on a single channel. The remaining staves can, of course be "unhidden" so you can see what was done here. A midi file was also provided, exported from the six "sounding" staves, for those without NWC. Be forewarned if you try to import the midi file into a sequencer program - the result will not be anything like what you'd expect! The fingering is largely editorial, based on my preferences. Feel free to use whatever works for you. An alternate fingering for guitars without cutouts of the first part of the "D" section is provided at the end of the score. Fred Nachbaur, Apr. 1999
